Rustic Fall

Not sure what’s up but we are having a pretty chilly Fall and early winter season and we’ve already had a couple snow storms bringing several inches of snow. Time to bring on the tea, soup and cozy sweaters! Also crunch in all the leaf piles and enjoy the crisp air (or hibernate under a pile of blankets until May…you know, whatever floats your boat). This time of year I like to live in all the cozy sweaters and this one from American Eagle is one of my favorites, so much so that I got it in another color as well. That’s how you know you like something, when you get it in more than one color! I’ve been inspired by the Fall color palettes lately so this outfit is based on the late Fall landscape, when everything’s not super bright anymore. Big fan of the rusty red, charcoal grey and mustardy tones in this fit!

After Abercrombie & Fitch had their rebranding renaissance to pitch to an older, more mature crowd, I’ve started to shop their a little bit again. So hats off to you Abercrombie for your successful rebranding mission. Their stuff is higher quality than the usual fast fashion and the prices are much more reasonable now than a decade ago. This bag from them is a very nice real leather bag that was on sale for only $35 bucks. I was pretty impressed by the quality of the leather. Overall this one is a very cozy and warm outfit made for the Fall days!

Cozy Autumn

I recently took the plunge and bought a Sherpa jacket from American Eagle. I know Sherpa or Teddy coats have been a bit of a trend the last few years and I sort have been putting it off. Eventually I wanted to see if they were actually as warm and cozy as everyone says they are. Since the material is synthetic and not actually shearling wool, I was a bit skeptical. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the quality and how warm they are! American Eagle offers a very affordable and warm sherpa jacket. I found that I could take a walk in it when its sub-50 degrees with no issue. I don’t think its particularly windproof but it’s great on the 45 degrees-and-up kind of days.

This jacket is pretty much perfect for a sunny, October kind of day which is why I wore it to go pick pumpkins at a local farm! I don’t know why but I absolutely love all the dorky things that you do during Fall. Go apple and pumpkin picking? YES. Go marvel at the Fall colors? YES. Go crunch through a bunch of leaves? YES. Go on a hayride through a corn field? Sign me up. Sorry not sorry, ya’ll. Fall is pretty much the best season and I will make no apologies for liking all the things.

As for Fall activities, I enjoyed checking out a u-pick pumpkin patch at Bartel’s Farm and going on their $2 hay ride. It was such a lovely Fall day and everyone there seemed to be in such a good mood. They had a huge field full of pumpkins to pick from, tasty food stands and delicious roasted chilis. It was such a great time!

January Blues

January is one of my least favorite months–something about the holidays being over, a new year and lets be honest, January has the worst weather.  Even if you live in a place like California with perfect weather year round, rainy and relatively cold weather usually sets in.  Here in Colorado, January was welcomed by negative temperatures and freezing rain, but no snow!   If it’s gonna be freezing cold, I want there to at least be a pretty snowfall but nope, no snow this month so far.

That said, drinking hot tea and hibernating is the cure for January blues.  I have been keeping warm in cozy knit sweaters and binging on netflix!  This sweater from H&M and these ultra soft leggings from Felina have been the perfect pair on cold January days.  Another recent favorite has been these Anthropologie ankle boots found on Poshmark.  I love the details and the quality of the leather! And for a girl who isn’t super down with heels, these block heels add a little height without hurting your feet.  Plus they are perfect for a dressed down casual look or for a night out, so it’s a win-win!

Pendleton Shirt

It’s been a minute but I was finally able to get around to updating the blog in the new locale in Colorado! Moving from California basically involved me staring at the butt of a budget van for 1,200 miles, but Colorado has been worth every minute of the stress of moving and general craziness. The weather here is a lot more finicky and finding time to shoot has been limited, but I’m really excited to get going on some new stuff! I recently popped into a Pendleton store in town and this button down shirt caught my attention.  Usually their stuff has a lot of bright colors (which I do love!) but I really like their current offering of pretty pastels for Spring. The material is really soft and flowy too so I can tell this shirt is going to come in handy when Summer rolls around.

Overall Colorado has been fantastic but, something that hasn’t been so great is how my skin has handled the high desert climate. Hoooly smokes, talk about dry, tight and dehydrated skin. My face felt like I had a tight mask over it all the time and was flaking like crazy! I was desperate so I started to experiment with products. My experiments wound up giving me a horrible allergic reaction to a night cream which was basically a disaster on top of a dumpster fire. The good news is I was finally able to perfect a routine that works great for me (combination skin with dehydration issues). So if you have a similar skin type and live in a high elevation, low humidity and/or desertish environment, I recommend trying out the below products. And as a PSA, all skin types need love in a climate like this , especially during the winter months!

This new routine has vastly improved my skin situation; I am actually kind of astonished at the improvement. As a nightly routine I start with the makeup remover/cleanser, followed by Paula’s Choice toner, then the Toleriane Fluide and finish with either the La Roche-Posay Baume moisturizer or Jojoba Oil. Then every week or so I will add in Sephora’s Night Mask to the routine. During the day I wear EltaMd’s tinted physical sunscreen that works great as a sunscreen and as a makeup base! Cozy Neutrals

As you can probably tell I have been into clean and simple neutral looks lately. Neutral tans, beiges and charcoal greys look so good when paired with complementary textures like leather and velvet. This outfit has been one of my favorite travel outfits in the recent months. I’ve been kind of obsessed with menswear inspired looks and this windowpane button down has become a bit of a staple in my closet.

My favorite travel outfits usually involve layers. Layers are a smart idea, especially when flying, because temperatures in the airport can vary so widely. It’s always handy to have some wiggle room when you’re stuck somewhere. It can get a little complicated traveling from a cold area to a warmer one too. I wore this outfit when I traveled from Chicago to Los Angeles and it worked out nicely. To buffer from the cold while I traveled from Chicago, I added this cozy scarf as well as my new favorite leather jacket from Zara. I’ve only had it a month or two but it’s quickly become a prominent accessory in my closet! It’s surprisingly good for cold weather too. Then when I arrived in warm and sunny California, removing the layers was a cinch!

High Summer

I came across this Zara A-line skirt recently and totally fell in love with it. I like little injections of Boho style here and there and this skirt does the trick. How cute is that embroidery? I feel like you could dress it up or down, either way works. I went with a more summery night out type of look.  I paired it with a basic white t-shirt, suede ankle boots and a comfy moto jacket for cooler evenings. This jacket is made out of a faux suede material and crazy enough I actually prefer it to real suede. It’s a lot more flexible and lightweight than the real stuff. This skirt tends to run small so order a full size up than your usual size.

Dark Floral

Lately I have been into long sleeved, dark floral patterned dresses and this one combines the best of those things. This dress is comfy and loose fitting with a great retro 70’s floral pattern. You can take it in at the waist with a belt if you’re looking for a more fitted look but I actually like the looseness of this style. I like this outfit as a transition look for the in-between seasons. Long sleeve dresses and tights are your friend for that weird in between time. It’s also super affordable too which is a plus.

I’ve also been pretty much obsessed with these Marc Fisher ankle boots…they just look so good with so many things! It’s hard to resist wearing them with pretty much everything. To complete this look I added my favorite Brixton felt hat and this Hustle & Hide leather bag. Who says black and brown can’t be worn together? I beg to differ thank you very much. In terms of where to wear, I would probably wear this out to a concert or as a Winter to-Spring every day look.

Black on Black

Don’t you love when you find something you haven’t worn in a while and see a new use for it? I was doing a closet purge and found this graphic tee tucked away on a back shelf. It doesn’t happen too often to me but it’s a bit like finding $20 in your winter coat pocket when you first take it out.  I thought it would go great with some of new additions to my closet. Namely this Brixton hat and these lovely Marc Fisher ankle boots. The boots are amazingly comfortable with beautiful leather to match. I had been snooping around on Etsy trying to find a tooled clutch and I came across this one for a reasonable price. Very happy with the beautiful engraved patterns on it and it fits just enough for a phone and cash. You can really luck into some amazing finds on Etsy!
