Bell Sleeves // Sweater by Madewell

March 18, 2021 by The Partial Ingredients

A lot has changed since these pictures were shot! Northern Colorado got like two feet of snow last week which means the winter slog shall continue. In any event I am glad to have this super warm sweater from Madewell in my closet for such an occasion. I am a fan of the subtle 70’s vibes with the bell sleeves and earth tones. Maybe it’s just me (or maybe it’s the block colors) but I feel like there’s a little bit of a 60’s mod thing going on too. The thing that drew me to this one was the colors — I just love the neutral and warm tones! I feel like I’ve gotten more and more into tonal dressing recently and I’m feeling pretty okay about it. Super trendy ideas like exaggerated bell sleeves, ruffles, etc., I’ve never really been a fan of but since this one is on the subtle end I’m all about it! Have you gotten into anything lately that isn’t really your style?

A brand I have been all about lately is Madewell (owned by J. Crew, FYI). Their denim lines are fantastic and their sweaters are usually made with a decent percentage of wool which ups the warmth big time! I also find tons of Madewell items on Poshmark to sift through and you can find some fantastic deals. The fast fashion problem has been something on my mind lately, so my goal has been to source the majority of my new closet additions through sites like Poshmark to cut down on my consumption. So far it’s worked out great, and I actually like the interactions more since you’re dealing with regular people selling. Sellers will often package your item thoughtfully and leave handwritten notes which is pretty great. I’ve all but canceled forays into thrift stores since COVID so Poshmark has filled the gap seemlessly — I highly recommend downloading the app and trying it out!

Linen & Straw

August 25, 2018 by The Partial Ingredients

I’m all about comfortable looks that look put together at the same time.  I’ve personally never been a “wear sweatpants to the grocery store” kind of person, but if you are, more power to ya.  Stylishness is usually sacrificed for the sake of comfort, but these linen pants are a totally different story.

It’s not too often where I come across an item where I go “hey these could technically be pajama pants!” But these are waay better than  PJs; they look really fantastic dressed up with a nice boho style tunic and leather flats.  I’ve worn these out on hot days because of how lightweight and breezy they are.  Sometimes I’m just not in the mood for heavier material on really hot days.  Linen is pretty much the ideal Summer material for clothing in my opinion.  They are perfect for a Sunny day at the beach, poolside or a even a midday brunch.

Minimal Boho

November 5, 2016 by The Partial Ingredients

Button Down & Paisley Skirt - Partial IngredientsI like the Boho 2.0 trend but in smaller doses. I can’t stand when it starts looking sloppy with too many layers and too many patterns. I think I might be scarred from all the floppy peasant tops with flaired sleeves from the early 2000s–nope nope nope! I would call this a more minimalist interpretation of the new Boho trend from recent years. I paired a clean cut button down top with a patterned paisley skirt and strappy sandals. Then I mixed the patterns slightly with a screen printed bag.  I love the color and pattern of this skirt. You can easily dress it up or down but I prefer it more casual and beachy. …

Embroidery & Suede

Embroidery & Suede - The Partial Ingredients

This button down suede skirt works great with preppy outfits but I tend to like it with a little more Boho flair. I paired it with a loose and flowy embroidered blouse and some comfy moccasins. This skirt works well as a summer to fall transition piece. It’s a little bit heavier than other skirts but when paired with a light weight top it works well for summer days. These Minnetonka moccasins have been my go to shoes for several years now–they’re great for everyday wear because they’re so comfortable and they go well with a lot of outfits.
