Spring Blues

To talk about the latest Spring looks feels a bit strange and out of place. A lot has changed since I last posted. I think at this point everyone is on the same page with current events (like, you literally cannot escape the news right now) so I won’t beat a dead horse. In an attempt for normalcy I felt like I should probably update the blog though.

So, how about jeans folks?! Lolz. I will say, these ultra high-rise Levi’s are pretty awesome. These are their 721 style in a medium wash with just the right amount of cotton (75%) and just the right amount of stretch. I wouldn’t call them true denim jeans because of the decent amount of stretch but they aren’t quite full on “jeggings” either. A perfect blend I should say! And soooo comfortable. I wouldn’t call them as durable as cotton jeans but the comfort factor makes up for it because 100% cotton jeans are so stiff and take forever to break in. To add to the comfort factor, I included this classic waffle weave top from American Eagle, mostly because I just love the color. It’s just so pretty, and looks great with blue jeans! I admit it’s more of a Fall color but I think rustic orange can have its place in the Spring. Adding in my favorite pair of Chelsea boots by Marc Fisher to give this outfit a more minimalist vibe. Into the Rockies

We’ve recently had a bout of lovely Fall weather and it has been so gorgeous! I took advantage of the milder temperatures by posting one of my latest favorite dresses from Abercrombie & Fitch. I initially bought this one in the snake skin pattern (not without some amount of trepidation) but it turned out to be a lovely dress! So naturally I had to see what the floral pattern was all about and bought another (it didn’t hurt that it also happened to be on sale). Needless to say I am thrilled with this one as well! This dress has more of a viney pattern than a typical floral design that I just love. It goes great as a Fall layering base — pair it with a cardigan, jacket and tights and you are good to go for cooler weather. This dress is weirdly versatile; it fits in well as part of an every day outfit but could be dressed up for a night out or even a wedding.

I also recently discovered this Etsy shop that sells Babouches in all kinds of patterns and colors. What are Babouches you ask? Well, they are pretty much a slip-on shoe that hails from Morocco. These simple black ones with a foldable heel caught my eye (one of the few they sell with a foldable heel). They are perfect for a more minimalist wardrobe and I am a big fan!

Over the weekend, we did a little road trip to check out the Aspens changing at Rocky Mountain National Park. While I do miss the Midwest falls that have a huge variety of colors, the all yellow trees along the mountain sides are truly stunning! It’s neat to see the little veins of gold in the distance in between all the evergreen trees. If you’re in Colorado, it’s worth checking out this time of the year.

Summer Storms

You wouldn’t know it but just about when I was finishing up with this shoot it started hailing like crazy, hence the title of this post. Not even rain to start, just straight up hail out of nowhere.  Colorado weather is just ridiculous sometimes. I do love a good Summer thunderstorm, but this outfit was intended to feature clothes for hot Summer days–days where you would rather wear nothing at all but can’t because of some pesky nudity laws. I recently ordered some “wedgie” style cut off Levi’s jean shorts for just that occasion because I’ve heard they are super comfy and great for Summer. Turns out everyone was right, they really are perfect for hot heather and I guess they make your butt look okay? Maybe? I don’t really see much of the wedgie thing but I do like the high waist look a lot. They look fab with crop tops and tie-waist shirts too!

These shoes are pretty much the perfect summer sandal–I haven’t stopped wearing them because they look great with everything and are super comfortable. To complete this look I added this cute little cactus print bag that has been a favorite of mine and a wide brimmed hat for sun protection. Just as a side note, it is really important to wear hats people, sun screen only does so much and only stays effective for a couple hours. I wear this hat almost exclusively for utilitarian reasons, but that doesn’t mean sun protection can’t look cute too!

Ditsy Skirt

Lately I’ve been loving 90’s inspired dresses and skirts, especially ones in ditsy patterns. I wasn’t even aware that these patterns were actually called “ditsy” but apparently they are! So, if you are feeling it like I am, you can use that term for your searches to find exactly what you’re looking for and it sure makes things a lot easier. The length of this skirt is pretty much perfect–it’s just slightly longer than a typical knee length midi but isn’t long enough to call it a maxi. I tend to feel bogged down with maxis so this length works great for me–obviously my opinion could change on maxis in the future, you never know!

My next favorite summer item has been these super affordable slides sold on Amazon. They are made from vegan suede and feel soo soft! Required no breaking in and they felt like I had been wearing them for years. They have just a hint of a block heel but nothing that would cause issues for folks who are not a fan of heels. I can walk around in these easily and I am not a heel kind of girl by any stretch! Another summer accessory I’ve been loving is this cute little antler ring–those little details for me just add something extra to any outfit without looking too dressy. This outfit would be perfect for a hot day by the beach or even out at a festival–and don’t forget your sun hat!

Cognac & Cable Knit

Lately I’ve been kind of obsessed with comfy, over-sized sweaters. They have definitely become a winter-time favorite of mine, especially this one from H&M! My preferred sweater material is a slightly lower percentage of wool so you don’t start sweating the moment you head indoors.  This one has just the right blend of materials and has a lovely cable knit pattern.

Over the holidays I received a couple amazing gifts, one of them being this gorgeous rucksack/book bag sold on Etsy. It has a roomy main compartment along with a smaller outer section that is big enough to fit a small laptop, tablet and books. I plan on making this one of my go-to travel bags in the future, especially since it’s made out of a very sturdy leather! Travel bags can take a beating but I think this one will be able to withstand the wear and tear. Also an Etsy find, this pretty necklace is made from a rough cut Citrine stone. I really love rough cut stones in necklaces –they’re just so pretty! Another recent find has been this great jewelry and accessories boutique, Civion. They have super cute and minimal designs. I am especially a fan of their bracelets. This one is a simple, pretty design which goes with so many outfits that I find myself wearing it all the time. Midnight Rainshower

As I’m typing this it is lightly raining outside. After moving to California I still miss rain and of course a good thunderstorm. While this is just barely a shower, it is lovely to listen to the rain and smell the wet pavement and grass coming in through the window. Since this is a rare treat I decided to look into something that reminded me of a rain storm. I started looking for a perfume that could help recreate it. It seemed like a difficult thing to recreate–how to get that smell of clean water, pavement and grass in a bottle? I then found the perfume company, Demeter and found exactly what I was looking for. I had heard of them for a long time but only recently tried out the scent, “thunderstorm.” They have several different options for watery scents but I wanted something more like an actual summer storm. The brand is super affordable but the perfume is not very long lasting. The scent is a perfect recreation of a rain storm. There was the rain, wet grass and soil all in a bottle. I was amazed! It was the answer to my “rain cravings” as it were.

The latest addition to my ever growing cardigan collection has been this one from American Eagle. I’m kind of obsessed with the in-between brownish purple tones. It’s one of those cardigans that you can wrap yourself up in it’s so soft. The cami is also by American Eagle and I love the darker daisy/floral pattern on this one. To complete the look I went with my tried and true chelsea boots. They go with so many things it’s hard not to reach for them for every look!
