Denim & Stripes

August 15, 2020 by The Partial Ingredients

My mind is thinking Fall outfit ideas but the weather is thinking 92 degrees. We are clearly not in sync right now. August is one of those months that you kind of just want to skip and fast-forward into September am I right? This outfit is all about classic Summer style, heavy on the minimal vibes. To deal with this weird month, I have whipped out this super lightweight button-down blouse from Abercrombie — perfect for this second round of hot-ass weather. I love tie front tops because they look great with both skirts and jeans. I am a big fan of the classic mom jean style and these cut-offs are actually quite comfortable!

Worn in this look are these Moroccan Babouches with a flip-up heel from Etsy seller FezSouk. I like the flexibility of being able to wear these like a slip-on mule or as a ballet flat. It’s really cool that this shoe can provide both styles! This little cross-body bag is also from Etsy at AFONiEStyle. Such a cute leather bag for a very affordable price. While I still have a couple more Summer looks up my sleeve (no pun intended), I am definitely excited to move on to Fall style inspiration!

Pointelle Sweater

February 9, 2020 by The Partial Ingredients

It’s been a very mild January/February so my thoughts have been turning more toward Winter-to-Spring transition looks. This pointelle sweater from Asos fits the bill as it’s very cozy but also has a bit of a Spring vibe going on. The length is pretty average and not overly cropped which is gives it some versatility. It looks great with high-waisted jeans but works well as a pullover with dresses and skirts. It’s always a treat to order something online and surprise–the thing is majorly cropped! And nowhere does it say on the listing that it is of course. This seems to be one of the casualties of online clothes shopping, especially with fast fashion brands (looking at you Forever 21). Luckily, Asos just made a normal sweater of normal length –incredible, I know! I paired this sweater with some comfy jeans from Levi’s–I’m a big fan of their stretchier jeans. They are ridiculously comfy and feel like you are wearing leggings!

Lately, I’ve been slowly putting together some minimalist capsule wardrobe ideas and a cozy reading corner in the new place! Still works in progress but I’ve chosen a few neutral and minimal looks suitable for everyday, work or travel. Shown below are a few tops that fit perfectly into a more minimalist wardrobe. Simplification will be the key word for me in 2020!

Cozy Grey Pullover & Denim

October 14, 2018 by The Partial Ingredients

Good cozy pullover sweaters and jeans have been my jam this Fall.  They make for a great everyday minimal look without much effort. I recently picked up this oversized knit sweater from Zaful in a heather grey color, and it’s a perfect sweater for this time of year.  I love the open neck, where you can make it as drapey as you’d like and it goes well with scarves, leggings and boots.  And anything from Zaful is super affordable so if you’re looking for affordable knits, check them out!

So, I kind of have an obsession with this AG Adriano Goldschmied Jeans, and I plan on making a post featuring my collection of their colorful range of pants and jeans.  These distressed boyfriend cut jeans from AG are so ridiculously comfortable!  The denim is soft and flexible, which is important to me in a pair of jeans.  I really don’t like stiff denim, and I like when they feel “broken in” right away!  I normally don’t go for distressed but with the boyfriend style cuts it fits well.  The distressed parts are in the places that make sense and isn’t “over done.”  I don’t know about you but I really don’t like distressed jeans that look like you’ve been attacked by a tiger.  Also featured in this post are a few charms from one of my fav Etsy stores–love the silver leaf and pine tree!  I went with different chain lengths to create a more layering effect, and you can also buy them with chain or just the charm only.

Fall Neutrals

October 5, 2018 by The Partial Ingredients

Some Fall days are warm enough for short sleeves, others not so much.  This post is about those warmer Fall days, where you want to wear Autumnal colors, but you can’t justify the layers.  I recently came across this great 70’s inspired button up top from Urban Outfitters and fell immediately in love with the color and pattern.  Really digging that retro menswear vibe–and it’s comfy AF too!  I went with my classic Joe’s skinny jeans because they look great as part of a neutral toned look.

Another recent shoe find I’m currently in love with: the Destino Flat from Free People. While I don’t typically go for black sandals, these were too perfect to pass up.  They come in a variety of colors besides black–all of which are equally tempting.  I especially loved the black for some reason which is totally not like me! These go so well with jeans and skirts alike, and the leather and overall construction seem to be of good quality.  I always need to remind myself to go against first inclination and try to branch out from what I’d normally gravitate towards.  It’s nice to do that, otherwise everything you buy winds up looking the same!  While they do run a bit pricey, you can find them on sale on eBay, Zappos, etc.

Ochre & Blush

June 20, 2018 by The Partial Ingredients

I’m been a big fan of mustard tones and over the last few months it seems like it’s become a trend. I’m not complaining–I love seeing more of this color! Before it started making the rounds, it was kind of hard to find the perfect hue. Sometimes mustard yellow looks a little too bright for me instead of the rich, golden tones that I prefer. These “boyfriend” style pants from Pendleton are pretty much the perfect golden-y ochre that I’ve been looking for and I’m super excited to finally find them! And if you’re wondering, I believe they sell this color under the “curry” tag. That’s another thing, it’s almost impossible to search for mustard yellow because brands tend to sell it under random names.

To complement the chinos, I went with a clean and simple menswear inspired look with this very lightweight button down and leather oxfords. I am obsessed with these U.S. made oxfords from Walkover! They’re made from bison leather and designed with a good year welt construction, which is one of the best ways to build a long lasting shoe. You know when you hold something and it just feels like quality? Those are that feeling in a nutshell. As for accessories, I love pretty little details just like this leaf ring in matte gold from the Etsy store, Vermeil Supplies. They have very affordable accessories that add just a little something extra to an every day look.

Window Pane & Suede

December 31, 2017 by The Partial Ingredients

It’s New Year’s Eve and this year has absolutely flown by–especially the last few weeks! Lots of traveling, planning and decision making. It has been a seriously crazy last few weeks. Traveling can be super tiring as well so it’s important to wear the most comfortable outfit possible. I also read recently that it’s good to wear reasonably comfy closed-toe shoes on a flight in case there’s a problem which admittedly I hadn’t even considered. This outfit is one of my favorite travel looks because everything about it is comfy and low maintenance.

Lately I’ve been into more menswear inspired looks and this slightly oversized button down has been a perfect addition to my closet. I tied it in front to help keep the slightly long ends more tidy. One of my favorite recent purchases have been these desert style boots from Lucky Brand. I’m pretty much obsessed with them! They keep popping up in my daily outfits because they go with so many different looks. To complete the look I added my favorite travel friendly suede backpack and these extra comfy Joe’s skinny jeans.

Heather & Fawn

December 14, 2017 by The Partial Ingredients

I was recently inspired to try out a bit of menswear styling–you know, slacks, button downs, loafers and oversized cardigans. All of which I happen to be a big fan of! I had the idea of wearing something that you might see your English professor wear but I wanted to make it more feminine and updated.

This big oversized cardigan is perfect for such an occasion. It’s so cozy comfy it feels almost like a blanket! The jeans are nearly as comfortable as the cardigan as the material is extremely soft sateen. I am absolutely obsessed with this fawn color–it’s just so pretty. These suede loafers from Steve Madden have been one of my favorite closet additions. They go with so many things and have a simple, classic look. They’re also made out of a super soft suede so there was really no break-in process at all!
